A Large Mural Painted in Traditional Portuguese Tiles

An important mural of ‘azulejos’ designed and painted by the English artist John O’Connor

This mural is presented in photographs of a maquette of the original fountain designed by John O’Connor. Originally planned for the corner site of a building descending into a garden, it was intended as a recreational area with the water of the fountain cascading down twin falls to an artificial pound or swimming pool beneath. The mural however can be adapted to fit into another architectural location, i.e. hotel, office block, condominium, shopping mall, etc.

The mural is painted on traditional 14 cms tiles and is composed of 3 separate panels with the following dimensions:

The central panel is 5.2 metres high by 6.6 metres wide (at its widest points); The side panels are 3.8 metres high by 3.8 metres wide (at their widest points). It is composed of approximately 2,500 tiles amounting to 49 square metres.

The theme of the mural is a ‘fête champêtre’, that is an elegant courtly entertainment frequently featuring ‘commedia dell’arte’ performances, masquerades, etc., very much part of the entertainment of the aristocratic life of Europe’s 18th century, and it was originally inspired on a 18th century painting by the French painter Fragonard entitled ‘La Fête de Rambouillet’.

Price on application.
